Godzilla, a strong historical context, a timeless license
For Godzilla, it all started in 1954 in Japan. Almost 10 years after the atomic bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the Japanese discovered on the screen Gojira, a prehistoric marine reptile, mutant, awakened by nuclear tests in the Pacific. Then irradiated, it comes out of its lair and destroys the city of Tokyo.
The movie was a real success and Godzilla immediately became an icon of world popular culture. Beyond movie entertainment, the first films in the franchise presented Godzilla as a metaphor for the United States and an allegory of nuclear force. All these films, and more specifically the first one from 1954, presented a frightening Godzilla, a monstrous result of atomic radiation. At the time, this character embodied the fear of many Japanese people in the face of the trauma of nuclear bombs, and especially the possibility of their recurrence.
Since 1954, Godzilla has never stopped: to this day there are 36 movies (already released and to be released), 5 manga and comic series, more than 35 video games and many references made in other strong licenses.
From Godzilla 2014 to MonsterVerse
In 2014, after almost 10 years of pause, Godzilla returns to the screen for a new series of films with contemporary stories, in which nuclear power is still at the center of everything. Godzilla faces several monsters and saves the human race from its own mistakes. The last opus of the saga, Godzilla VS Kong, is expected to be released in March 2021, for which we have obtained the rights. This movie will see Godzilla and King-Kong, the two most powerful forces of nature, confront each other in a spectacular new battle.
This is the 32nd film featuring Godzilla, the 9th featuring King-Kong, and the 4th from MonsterVerse: the universe of several giant monsters of the cinema. Universe of which Godzilla and King-Kong are part.
