First “video games” license for the French studio
Today we are very proud to announce a new license, which breaks somewhat with our usual universes: Resident Evil Infinite Darkness joins Kami-Arts.
With this franchise, we are taking a first step into the world of video games. We told you: we want to develop on this universe and offer you statues from other licenses than movies or manga.
Resident Evil is therefore a first for our studio, and not the least: the franchises frequently ranks in the top 20 best-selling licenses in the world, and is next to the indescribable Final Fantasy or GTA. Find one of the rankings here.
A bit of history about Resident Evil
For the Resident Evil license, it all started in 1996, with the release of the first eponymous game published by Japanese video game publisher Capcom.
It is the first game of the “survival horror” genre, which mixes adventure, action and reflection. One of the special features of the “Resident Evil” genre is the objective perspective view: the controlled avatar appears on the screen, usually showing it with a slightly submerged view. This type of perspective is common to the entire series of games in this license, right up to the last chapter, “Resident Evil 7: Bioazard“, which adopts an FPS (First-person shooter) subjective view, also called Doom-like.
Resident Evil plunges us into an apocalyptic world, populated by zombies. In the chronology of the Resident Evil universe, these creatures are the result of a handling error by the Umbrella Corporation laboratory, an error that transforms humans into beings devoid of thought or logic and acting according to a single rule: the instinctive need to eat. Throughout the games and the story, we follow the adventures of Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield, recurring characters and investigators around the mysteries of the different games.
Since 1996, more than 30 different games, 10 animated films and movies and numerous literary adaptations have been produced. An animated series is also planned for 2021 on Netflix.
